Haji Juma Khan, a drug kingpin with ties to the Taliban, is an ethnic Baluch from Nimroz Province. Juma Khan, a 1990s Afghan heroin smuggler from the southwest, was illiterate. He became a national celebrity after the US-led invasion of #Afghanistan. Despite knowing he was involved in narcotics trafficking, he was briefly held by American soldiers after the Taliban fell in 2001.

After his release, he took control of Bahramcha, a settlement in the Chagai Hills on the Pakistan-Iran-Afghanistan border, and transformed it into a hub for drug and weapons trafficking into Pakistan and Iran. Juma Khan allegedly ran the Taliban's global opium and heroin trafficking network, using the earnings to arm Taliban fighters.

In 2008, he was arrested in Indonesia and brought to New York. On April 20, 2018, he was quietly freed without charges or a trial. No formal reason was given. His discharge was kept under wraps and not reported in the mainstream media.
