Abstract:
Commercial software makes it easy to fit Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy data to arbitrary equivalent circuits. The next step is often to guess at the meaning of the circuit elements. Here I describe briefly what goes into deriving an equivalent circuit from some underlying electrochemical reaction mechanism, and discuss what meaning it is possible (or not) to assign to the circuit elements. Common pitfalls in constructing and interpreting equivalent circuits are discussed.
