The ITN Archive is sad to hear of the death of Diana Edwards-Jones, founding member of ITN and one of the first directors of the News at Ten, aged 91. Remembered as a trailblazer in the industry, Edwards-Jones acted as studio floor manager of the first ITN programme in September 1955. Becoming head of programme directors in the 1970s, in February 1974 she became the first female director of a TV election special. Former colleague Alastair Stewart paid tribute to Edwards-Jones as "the best director especially of big event news TV", joking that "her language put troopers to shame”. Presented here is some spectacular footage of Diana Edwards-Jones directing the broadcast of a News at Ten bulletin on 23 July 1971.
