* Earlier this week, Apple released and investor update on quarterly guidance for Q2, 2020. In other words, the revenue and other financial projections they’d given last quarter to set expectations for this quarter.

Apple is getting out ahead here, one of the first first major American companies to do so. They won’t be the last.

The reason for the update was COVID-19, commonly referred to as the Coronavirus, and — in addition to its terrible impact on communities and people in China — on Apple’s production and retail operations therein.

I have to say it that way because, unfortunately, because this isn’t a gotcha moment for hot takes on how Apple and big tech have put themselves at risk by becoming overly dependent on China.

Just like aliens invading South Bay wouldn’t be a gotcha moment for hot takes on how overly dependent many of those companies are on Silicon Valley.

We can cover the industry and still be human.

Now, while Apple said they will no longer meet the previously projected guidance, and that iPhone supply shortages will temporarily affect revenues worldwide, and that store closures would affect retail demand in China, Apple did not provide any new numbers.

So, to help understand what’s going on and where it’s all going, I’ve got one of the best financial analysts on the planet on the line. Above Avalon’s Neil Cybart.
