If you have the BMW N62 engine in your car - 645i, 650i, 745i or 750i and you are getting problems with blue smoke from the exhaust you have probably been told you need to replace the valve guide seals - and it's going to cost you a lot of money!

But 50% - 60% of the causes of smoke is not the valve stem seals - it's the famous PCV valves (called all sorts of names such as CCV, Check-Valve, OSV and a number of other incorrect names). No, these fella's are PCV's, Pressure Control Valves - and they get stuck, tear and get blocked up - and then your car is going to smoke - badly.

This is no surprise to BMW owners that have the M60/M62/M62TUB engines - we are quite used to PCV valves causing smoke - and we've been swapping them out for years. But mention smoke and the N62 and everyone shouts stem seals!
