How do you know if you’re in the #menopause if you have a #mirena coil or take the mini-pill / Progesterone Only Pill 💊 (POP) and don’t have #periods?

This is such a common question because the definition of menopause is “1 year without a period” … what if you don’t have periods due to you being on a long acting reversible hormonal contraceptive (LARC)?

Well the simple answer is we use your age and symptom tracking.
Below 45yrs FSH blood test 6weeks apart & symptom tracker. Rule out other causes for any symptoms.
Above 45yr no need for FSH. Symptom checker. Rule out other causes

Clinically it makes no sense to take anyone off their LARC just to see what is happening with your periods.

So the advice is to rule out other causes for symptoms and use the Menopause Symptoms Checker. If the symptoms point to being menopausal then the HCP needs to counsel their patient to look at holistic, non-HRT or HRT options for management

Note: The Mirena Coil as well contraceptive also provides the progesterone component of HRT for 5years
