Why is this truck not running right? Why does this Toyota have a horrible misfire? Are Toyotas really that reliable? Why do people love the FJ Cruiser? Buying a Toyota. Toyota problems. Is Toyota worth it? Buying a used Toyota. Should I buy a Toyota?

In the prior episodes, we discovered trouble code P0016. Upon verifying the timing was off, we moved forward and installed new timing chains, timing tensioners, Toyota chain slippers, chain vibration dampers, camshaft sprockets along with gaskets and o-rings. All parts are Toyota OEM purchased from the local dealership. The FJ ran great upon first start up. However, after 15 minutes, the truck started to run very rough. Now we have trouble code P0011, timing over advanced. Is the timing off? Oil Control valve failure? Clogged Oil Control Valve filter? Cam phaser or camshaft timing gear damaged? Can we fix this?

This is a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser with the legendary 1GR-FE 4.0L V6 and mated to an automatic transmission. (This engine is also found on other Toyota trucks, including the Toyota Tacoma, Land Cruiser and 4Runner.) Let's see if we can fix P0011 and finally get this truck up and running!

P0011 - Advanced camshaft timing (Bank 1)
P0012 - Retard camshaft timing (Bank 1)
P0021 - Advanced camshaft timing (Bank 2)
P0022 - Retard camshaft timing (Bank 2)

Areas that we'll look at include the oil control valve, oil control valve filter, engine or valve timing, cam phaser or camshaft timing gear assembly.
