Process Waste Aqua Regia into Bleach - #reuse #waste #metal #acid
All of our waste acid is not wasted. In the system that is used on this channel we are able to process our used aqua regia waste solution, full of base metals, into hypochlorous acid which is very similar to bleach.
Hypochlorous acid is commonly used as a disinfectant. In the lab, it is very useful as a glassware cleaner. The process consists of electrochemistry, using a graphite cathode and pure platinum anode, to electroplate all of the base metals out of solution. This generates chlorine gas that can be trapped in distilled water and turned into hypochlorous acid.
I also demonstrate, by using distillation, how you are able to achieve very similar results as the electrochemistry and it is also highly effective. We then further process the base metals by redissolving them. Then, using aluminum foil to displace the base metals, they precipitate out in incredible fashion.
