Jim does not recommend flushing a water heater. BUT, when changing an element on an electric water heater than a proper flush is good to do. This is how.

Jim shares his experience on flushing a water heater, gas and electric. He recommends flushing an electric heater when the lower heating element burns out. Then, to flush it requires more than opening the bottom valve and put a garden hose on the top.
