Qari Abdul Basit 'Abd -us Samad was an Egyptian reciter.He was born in 1927 and died 30th November 1988.He was well known for his unique voice.Qari Abdul Basit won three world Qirat competitions and also became the first Hafiz(memorizer of the quran) to make commercial recordings of recitations.He was chosen the president of the reciters union in egypt.Abdul Basit was the first president of that union.

Qari Abdul Basit was so popular that he often found to attend many events outside Egypt.Mostly he visited pakistan,india ,Indonesia and Bangladesh also in 1961,

Qari Abdul Basit died due to an illness.He was admitted to one of the best hospitals in london.30th November 1988 he died ,may allah grant this man jannatul Firdaus.Rahimahullah.Among his three sons Yasir became a Qari.
