Fortune Magazine Health and Wellness Reporter Alexa Mikhail took a visit to Prenuvo, a full-body MRI screening center in New York City, to undergo a scan with the hopes of empowering people to make informed decisions about their health care.

In recent months, endorsements from celebrity influencers such as Kim Kardashian, Zac Posen, and Lily Aldridge have brought these elective procedures to public attention with some criticizing the steep cost and questioning just how useful they are for healthy people.

The scan itself is about an hour with results typically available within five days. After waiting a few weeks from the initial scan, Alexa heads back to the screening center to chat with Erica Ferreira, a Senior MRI Technologist, to discuss the results.
