My half-African, half-Chinese friend June Mu @hysteau2s who grew up in Beijing speaks 100% flawless Chinese with a perfect Beijing accent, but also due to his genius linguistic talent speaks French, Spanish, various African languages, and somehow also pitch-perfect English that makes him sound like a New York local (he only came to America and learned English a few years ago). Because he doesn’t look very Chinese, we recently went out to some Chinese markets and people were STUNNED by his perfect Chinese – they thought he was a foreigner and didn’t believe him when he told them he actually grew up in China! And when they gossiped about him behind his back, he was able to reply in perfect Mandarin!
