Alfred Caldwell didn't complete college and so lacked the credentials to have a high-up job with the Chicago Park District. That didn't stop him from designing the Caldwell Lily Pool in Chicago's Lincoln Park; he even cashed in his own life insurance to pay for plantings that the Park District wouldn't approve. So he was furious to see the sorry state the Lily Pool was in when he visited in 1990, and he didn't live to see its restoration in the early 2000s. #architecture #landscape #landscapearchitecture #architecturelovers #nativeplants #park #parks #chicago
