The FCC recently launched an updated National Broadband Map which shows what ISPs are available at any address in the US. You can also view coverage maps by city, county, state, and more. The data has never been published before in such a complete manner, so it gives a real sense of what's available. The data is as of June 30, and while it's not perfect, there is a way for anyone to challenge the accuracy of the data using the website. In this video I walk you through how to use the site to find local internet providers, and use the city I live in Las Vegas, as an example. I talk through how to find providers by technology type, such as cable, copper, DSL, fiber, satellite, or wireless, and also about how you can see and filter for the speeds available both for upload and download. You can use this to generate coverage maps for example, to see where fiber is available near you, from what providers. I also talk about some of the new home internet players like Verizon, T-Mobile, WeLink and Starry as well as existing ones like Cox and CenturyLink.
