June is National Indigenous History Month and throughout the month, we are sharing the stories of Indigenous families in the autism community. Our 2021 grant recipient, “Pure Happiness” from the Tsuut’ina Disabilities Program aims to build a social circle of support for indigenous autistic children ages 6 to 15 while simultaneously providing respite for caregivers in Tsuut’ina, Alberta. Meeting once a month, the program involves Elders to share stories, teach traditional values and ways, as well as other presenters to discuss relevant topics in hopes of decreasing social isolation and enhancing social connections.
