A lot of people deal with submental fat or a double chin. Weight gain, genetics, and the natural loss of skin elasticity that comes with age can all play a role. There are lots of available treatments to treat or remove double chins, including newer treatments like CoolSculpting or Kybella, but laser liposuction is still a proven way to remove a double chin, and provides increased collagen production to help tighten the skin around the submental area.

In this video we’ll look at five different chin liposuction before and after photos as well as walk through the process for chin and neck liposuction so you can get a better understanding of the procedure. Personally I believe that there’s really no reason to do chin liposuction under general anesthesia as local anesthetic can satisfactorily numb the area.

What’s really advantageous about doing the chin and neck area is how much more defined it makes the whole face. Fat deposits in the submental area can really give a puffy appearance that distracts from the natural jawline; liposuction can address these by removing fat in the neck and jawline. Aging can cause use to lose elasticity in our skin, especially around the neck, but laser liposuction like SmartLipo stimulates collagen production and can help tighten up skin in the area – it’s one of the reasons liposuction might still be preferred over something like CoolSculpting for this particular area.

When I do chin and neck liposuction, I not only get the fat underneath the chin but also suction along the jawline. I find this greatly improves the aesthetic appearance of the face and gives great results, especially for patients that might have a minimal amount of submental fat but are unhappy with their neck and chin definition.

Some patients, especially older patients, will have more skin laxity in this area. Just because you have loose skin doesn’t mean you can’t get liposuction, but you should be aware that skin laxity may affect your overall results. If loose skin is your biggest concern (rather than fat in the area) then ultimately what you’re looking at is potentially getting a face lift. But take a look at the before and after examples in this video first to see what kind of reduction you can expect to achieve with laser liposuction alone.
