October 21, 2022 - Dr. Cornel West's speech entitled "A Cloud of Prophetic Witnesses" at Berkeley School of Theology's 150th Anniversary Celebration Banquet wove together themes of Christianity, social justice, philosophy, politics, and music. In addition, Dr. West was awarded an honorary doctorate from Berkeley School of Theology.

Dr. West is an eminent theologian and is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary. Dr. West teaches on the works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, as well as courses in Philosophy of Religion, African American Critical Thought, the classics, philosophy, politics, cultural theory, literature, and music. Dr. West graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in three years and obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy at Princeton.

Berkeley School of Theology (BST), founded in 1871, has served at the center of Baptist and ecumenical theological education in the far west of the United States for the last 150 years. BST is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches in the United States (ABCUSA) and is a founding school of the Graduate Theological Union (1962). Though steeped in the historic “free church” heritage, BST board, faculty and students hail from a variety of denominational and religious traditions in the U.S. and around the world.
