Your 2020 Dodge Journey AutoStick feature allows you to shift your automatic transmission like a manual transmission. For a more adaptive or responsive control, move the gear shift from the Drive position to the AutoStick mode and upshift or downshift manually.

AutoStick lets you enjoy manual shift control of your automatic transmission. It maximizes engine braking and eliminates unwanted up and downshifts for better overall performance. You’ll have better control for passing, city driving and many other situations. When the transmission’s in Drive, it shifts between available gears automatically. To engage AutoStick, simply move the gear selector from Drive to the plus/minus position.
The current transmission gear will appear in the instrument cluster. Then, select plus or minus to shift up or down. However, if an engine lugging or overspeed condition would occur, the transmission will stay in the current gear and will remain there until another up- or downshift is chosen.

Likewise, the transmission will upshift automatically when necessary to prevent engine overspeed.

You can also create an automatic downshift for better acceleration when reasonable. Just heavily press the accelerator pedal. The transmission will display the current gear and will automatically downshift as the vehicle slows to prevent engine lugging. When you stop, the transmission will automatically downshift to first gear. After a stop, manually upshift the transmission as you accelerate. Autostick also lets you start in first or second gear from a stop. Tap plus at a stop to start in second gear, which is great in snow or icy conditions. The system will ignore upshift attempts if speed is too low.
Avoid using speed control when AutoStick is engaged. Also, shifts will become more pronounced in AutoStick mode.
To disengage AutoStick, return the gear selector to the Drive position. You can shift in or out of AutoStick at any time without taking your foot off the accelerator pedal.
