Lignières the vintage swiss racetrack
The initiator of today's “Circuit de Lignières” was Robert Souaille. The French officer was already involved in the "Operation Sécurité" launched by the Banque de France in the 1950s.
In 1961 he laid the foundation stone for a driving area in the small village between Biel and Neuchâtel that was operated by the “Institut International de Psychodynamie SA”. He commissioned the construction with Hansmarkus Huber, a (then) young automotive engineer who still drives historic automobile races today.
With the “Circuit de Lignières”, however, 1961 was not just a new circular route in Switzerland (which at the time was actually considered “impossible”). The visionary Robert Souaille recognized the importance and the need for further education behind the wheel or behind the handlebar more than 50 years ago. In 1964, the 1.006 km route was expanded to today's 1,350 km.
In 1998 the "end" came until the TCS auctioned the site in 2003 and has since gradually renovated it.
for a short time the route became a topic for the drift scene and even king of europe championship races were held.
