From the 60s onward, Pakistani Shias immigrated to the United States, looking for better opportunities. Wherever they went, they had an incredible urge to commemorate Ashura. Meanwhile, the Khoja Shia from East Africa were slowly building their own communities, leaving Africa in search of a better home.
