In my 2022 4wd RAM 2500 Power Wagon I explain and show the difference between a Limited Slip differential and Locking differential. A limited slip' off road performance is not as good as a locking diff. I show you why a locking diff is far better off road when I take my truck up a slippery snowy 4x4 hill and compare the limited slip against the locking diff and you can see its far better off road then the Limited slip.

Happy new years to everyone! I hope you guys had a great holiday and I can't wait to start off this year with more cool content.

Today I wanted to shed some light on open differential, limited slip differentials and finally locking differentials. I feel like most 4x4 owners are not that aware of the important of each differential and how they can each affect your off-road performance and on-road performance. as I mentioned in the video I ALWAYS get comments about folks believing 4x4 means that all 4 wheels are going to be locked and getting power and that couldn't be farther from the truth. the only way to have all 4 wheels locked together is to have a locking transfer case and two locking differentials.

A limited slip differential is like a hybrid between an open diff and a locking diff. it always for great on-road drivability and still allows for some off-road capability. often times however a limited slip can still be very limiting in an off-road situation and can leave you stuck. the best thing for off-road is a locking diff which will split power to both wheels no matter what. but a locking diff on-road is horrible to drive with.

the other thing that kind of drives me crazy is when I hear people mention 4wd low as this miracle option that magically locks everything up. And that's just not true, 4wd low is simply just a speed range is does nothing to change your driveline or how your engine power is distributed to each wheel. Yes 4wd low is a handy tool off-road because when in that low range is allows more torque and control to be applied to your wheels. so it is handy but it does not locking up anything.

finally I take the ram power wagon to a little snowy hill and test out the limited slip vs locking diff in the real world to show you guys how much a difference a locking diff can make. to me is was pretty night and day when the locker was engaged and I'm happy that I now have alot more off-road ability!
