Porsche has released its 2023 Annual and Sustainability Report, revealing plans for an electrified 911 hybrid to debut early this summer. This new model, part of the updated 911 lineup known as "992.2," will feature a six-cylinder engine and is described as a high-performance hybrid, aiming to boost speed and efficiency. The technology for the 911 Hybrid is inspired by Porsche's racing heritage, avoiding the plug-in hybrid route to keep the car lighter.

Details suggest the hybrid will have a 48V starter generator integrated with its automatic gearbox, providing all-wheel drive with an electric motor at the front and a traditional engine at the rear. A specially designed, lightweight lithium-ion battery will be located behind the rear seats, minimally impacting the car's weight.

Rumors also hint at a more powerful GT2 RS hybrid variant with over 750 horsepower. Despite discussions around electric vehicles, Porsche confirms that a fully electric 911 will not be released this decade, focusing instead on combustion engines, potentially using synthetic fuel to comply with future regulations. The European Union's exemption of synthetic fuels from its 2035 emissions ban may extend the life of traditional engines.
