The AHS "Krab" is a self-propelled howitzer designed to meet NATO standards for the Polish Army. Initially conceived as a fully indigenous project, it was planned to utilize established components from the PT-91 "Twardy" Main Battle Tank (a heavily modified version of the Soviet/Russian T-72) and incorporate a powered turret inspired by the British AS-90 "Braveheart" Self-Propelled Artillery platform, utilizing the barrel of the French Nexter gun system. Development work on the vehicle commenced in 2000 and underwent an extensive period of refinement, resulting in the creation of at least three prototypes, with the first one completed in 2008. The project was overseen by Polish organizations OBRUM (Research and Development Center for Mechanical Devices) and CPW HSW (Military Production Center Huta Stalowa Wola).
