The new 2024 Volkswagen Passat R-Line, built on the enhanced MQB evo platform, introduces a blend of sophistication and practicality. Exclusively available as an estate car, the B9 Passat showcases premium materials, advanced technology, and increased interior space compared to its predecessor. The exterior design showcases a slicker look with a long body, sharp lines, and a smooth face. The full-width light bar at the rear, consistent with VW's latest design language, adds a touch of modernity. Under the hood, the new Passat features a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain, combined with Active Cylinder Management, allows for efficient coasting and contributes to an impressive claimed fuel efficiency. The R-Line specification provides a sportier appearance with the Black Styling pack, 18-inch wheels, sports seats, stainless steel pedals, and Dynamic Chassis Control adaptive suspension with Sport, Comfort, and Normal modes. The new Passat excels in practicality, offering significantly more legroom due to its increased length and longer wheelbase. The rear seats provide ample space, and the boot capacity stands at 690 litres, expandable to 1,920 litres with the seats folded down. Even with the plug-in hybrid powertrains, there's no compromise in boot space. Inside, the Passat features VW's latest MIB4 infotainment system displayed on a standard 12.9-inch touchscreen (15-inch optional) with improved user interface and configurable displays. Physical buttons return to the steering wheel, and the drive selector is conveniently moved to the steering column, creating additional storage space on the center console. The inclusion of DCC Pro adaptive suspension dampers linked to the Vehicle Dynamics Manager contributes to an improved ride quality and handling, making the new Passat a compelling option in the midsize estate car segment.
