While in Swindon, I popped in to the new Gridserve Charging Station at Dobbies Garden Centre. These are pretty conveniently located, just off the A419 which runs from the M4 to Cirencester and onto Gloucester. At this site is 8 x CCS 120kW, 2 x CCS 175kW, 3 x Chademo 100kW and 2 x type2 AC 22kW. Gridserve are rolling out EV charging at 30 Dobbies sites across the country.
These public DC rapid chargers are really needed in Swindon. Throughout the rest of the town, there's only 18 DC rapid charging bays across 13 sites. With most sites only having one charger and some currently not working, the chance of getting a charge without waiting is slim. So sites like this with multiple bays are long overdue.
Tesla have been planning a Supercharger site in Swindon for over two years now. In this video I visit where it is planned to be installed and due in Q1 2024. This is due to be built in the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet car park (North car park off Kemble Drive).
