CSFI Economic Outlook: Two weeks to go...

Why you should watch: There was a lot to worry about last week - not just the US election, though that is clearly a biggie. Trump is now so far behind that it is almost impossible for him to catch up - though the simmering scandal around Biden's son Hunter does give him a ghost of a chance (and an opportunity to skewer Joe's holier-than-thou persona during this week's debate). The other big event in DC last week was the (virtual) Fund/Bank Meetings - which were significant for the IMF's latest projections and for a pretty strong message that any country that can should borrow and borrow and borrow - and leave the consequences till later. That probably makes sense, given (a) the growing evidence of an economic slowdown everywhere except China; and (b) the insistence of our governing elites on another lockdown - regardless of the fact that 'suppression' is not 'cure', and that the collateral damage from another lockdown might take a generation to repair. Not smart.

In his Weekly Economic Outlook, Andrew Hilton, the CSFI’s Director, discusses the current crisis, its impact on the global economy, and what we may be missing.

Andrew is a former World Bank economist, who also ran a small economic consultancy advising international clients, particularly in the Middle East. He has an MA from New College, Oxford, an MBA from Wharton, and an MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Thouron Scholar and Kent Fellow.
