This highly informative DLD24 talk by the EU Commission’s Roberto Viola discusses Europe’s approach to regulating artificial intelligence while still encouraging innovation.

Viola, Director General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, notes that Europe is taking concrete steps to address global risks from AI through new laws and funding for research.

He also shares insights about the EU AI Act, which focuses on risk management and empowering stakeholders to address issues, arguing that good regulation can result in good innovation; and he highlights the potential of AI in areas like climate change, medicine and agriculture.
