Draft Horse Farmer Ralph Rice takes us through his plowing process as well as a detailed tutorial on hitching 2 or 3 draft horses together.

Ralph plows and odd shaped sized field. First he lays it out on a piece of paper. He marks the field at 25 pace increments which is the correct distance to allow the draft horse team to turnaround. He places long poles at the each end of the rows to give himself and the team a target. He explains with a diagram how to ago about plowing the fields with his right hand plow, going over the process for each row, explaining the "back furrow" and "dead furrow" left in each of the 25 pace sections.

Next Ralph goes into the field and explains the process again so we can see how the plan works in the field.

Ralph's 3–up team of the Percherons are harnessed and taken to the field. We see a close up view of Ralph hitching a team to the plow and then plowing the field. We then get a close up of his Pioneer Plow as he adjusts it to run smoothly.

Back at the barn Ralph lays the harness on the barn floor to expertly demonstrate how he hitches his two and three horses"Bit too bit" for more control and more comfort for the horses. He shows how each line is attached and how each line controls the draft horse team. This is an excellent hitching a demonstration. He also explains why he prefers this method over other systems.

Ralph explains why he puts the colts or less experienced horse, in the middle so it can only go where the experienced horses on each side go.
