The XC60 is Volvo’s 5-door, 5-seat mid-size SUV. It is built on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo’s advanced modular product platform that underpins all Volvo cars in the 90 and 60 Series.

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the second generation XC60 has quickly become the best-selling model in Volvo Cars’ range. The original XC60 sold almost one million units globally and was the best-selling mid-sized premium SUV in Europe.

The XC60 carries the proud and confident face of Volvo’s design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues. Key features include the iconic Thor’s Hammer” LED headlight design. The company’s designers have made a number of subtle refinements to the exterior design, including a new grille, new front bumpers, and new exterior colour and wheel options.

Volvo Cars’ new and improved hybrid powertrain brings the all-electric range up to a projected 90 kilometres on a single charge. With the average premium car owner travelling less than 50 kilometres each weekday, most Volvo drivers with home charging will be able do their daily motoring on pure electric power in a new Volvo plug-in hybrid.

The main improvements include a new long-range battery, featuring a third layer of cells to increase nominal energy from 11.6kWh to 18.8kWh, and a more powerful rear electric motor now delivering 145hp. The additional electric power results in a total combined output of 350hp for Recharge T6 and 455hp for Recharge T8 models, making the latter the most powerful Volvo cars ever produced. Besides the new powertrain, new upgrades include one-pedal drive on specific models.

The increased battery capability means that more customers will be able to drive primarily in pure electric mode, and Volvo Cars estimates that the new powertrain has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by up to around 50 per cent under the WLTP drive cycle.

Inside, Volvo has taken cues from the clean, Scandinavian interior design first introduced in the 90 Series cars, raising the bar in the segment with natural materials and new details on driver display, user interface the dashboard and instrument panel. New interior materials, including luxurious leather-free options as well as the availability of the City Weave textile upholstery, offer further possibilities for personalisation.

Connectivity and infotainment
The new Volvo XC60 comes with Android-powered infotainment system with Google apps and services built in, making the Volvo best-seller smarter than ever before. The intuitive, next generation infotainment system offers customers unprecedented personalisation and an unparalleled connectivity, which is further enhanced through the introduction of a brand-new Digital Services package.

The centrepiece of the Digital Services package is access to Google apps and services*, which offer hands-free help with Google Assistant, best-in-class navigation through Google Maps and a broad offer of native in-car apps via Google Play.

Powertrain technology
The XC60 is powered by Volvo’s Drive-E powertrains. It is available with a range of 48 volt mild hybrid variants, as well as a RechargeT8 AWD petrol plug-in hybrid that delivers as much as 407hp.

Volvo’s Recharge plug-in hybrid delivers all the benefits of a high performance, low emission petrol engine with an electric motor that delivers power on demand with ultra-low CO2 emissions and more than 40 km of pure electric range. The company’s mild hybrid technology, meanwhile, offers drivers up to 15 per cent fuel savings and emission reductions in real world driving.

More details around the powertrain offer can be found in the Technical Specifications.

Safety and driver assistance
Volvo’s leadership in the field of automotive safety is confirmed in the XC60. The SPA platform has resulted in the strongest Volvo cars to date because of extensive use of boron steel, as well as numerous safety systems designed to protect people inside and outside the car.

The XC60 now comes equipped with Volvo Cars’ latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform, a modern, scalable active safety system that consists of an array of radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.
