Why You SHOULDN'T Waste Your Money On The 2024 Chevrolet Trax!

Despite many cars and SUVs constantly improving every year, the 2024 Chevy Trax may well fall short of your expectations. Chevrolet made certain crucial mistakes with this model, and there are a bunch reasons you should avoid the Trax if you’re currently shopping around. Let’s dive right in..

The powertrain is a joke …
When you dig into the specifics of the 2024 Chevy Trax, your reaction will probably lean toward disappointment. The sole drivetrain configuration is front-wheel drive, and it's powered by an unexpected 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, generating a spluttering 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, channeling power to the wheels.

While this setup could be considered reasonable under the right circumstances, placing it in a car of this size seems puzzling and out of place.
Interestingly, this new Trax model has 18 horsepower and 15 lb-ft less than its predecessor. Yet, despite this, Chevrolet is claiming that the updated model is actually quicker.
Chevrolet emphasizes that this overhaul is such a significant departure from the original Trax that they actually contemplated rebranding it entirely. However, the familiarity of the Trax name among customers led them to reconsider and ultimately stick with the established branding.

The transmission is downright slothful
Describing the transmission performance of the Trax as lackluster is an understatement of significant proportions! Downshifting feels like it takes an eternity, particularly in situations that call for quick responsiveness. However, even with this shortcoming, we'd readily choose it over a CVT, given the choice.

Shifting the focus to fuel efficiency, the Trax achieves approximately 30 miles per gallon combined. While it might not match the impressive figures of compacts such as the Honda Civic, it still holds its ground admirably among other crossovers of this size.
And there’s no AWD option!

It’s important to highlight that the new Trax lacks an all-wheel drive option. This is really a letdown.

Competitors like the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Mazda CX-30 stand in the same category and come standard with all-wheel drive. Given their proven reputation for Japanese precision and craftsmanship, opting for either of these alternatives would undoubtedly be a more sensible choice.
The absence of all-wheel drive in the Trax diminishes its overall appeal, especially when compared to the standard offerings from contenders.

The interior is sub-par
Budget-grade plastics and underwhelming switchgear is an issue for many GM products.
While it's not realistic to anticipate the lavishness of an Audi or Mercedes, it's apparent that the Trax falls behind the most elementary benchmarks set by today's market.
Aesthetics always depends on personal taste. So, interestingly, after experiencing the GMC Canyon Denali and AT4X just prior to the Trax, certain finer points of the Trax's design emerged as more appealing!
Chevrolet's approach of incorporating thoughtful nuances throughout the cabin was refreshing. Here we’re talking about elements like the addition of colored fins to the climate vents, a textured treatment for the door cards, and distinctive patterns on the seats.

The base Trax has an 8-inch infotainment system and a 3.5-inch driver information display. The upper trim levels in the lineup sees an upgrade to an 8-inch fully digital gauge cluster accompanied by an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The 2024 Trax is also larger than before. In comparison to its predecessor, it’s gained an impressive 11 inches in length, while height is reduced by 4 inches, and an extra 2 inches is added to the width. This means passenger score more legroom, and cargo space offers up to 25.6 cubic feet of storage capacity behind the seats.

The seat design leaves much to be desired. Cushions are too short, and thus they don’t support the driver’s legs properly. And the digital gauge cluster cannot be configured – which is strange…
