Storytelling has been an indispensable tool of human communication throughout history, and its significance persists in today's technological world. Video games, in particular, have emerged as a powerful medium for storytelling, with some games rivaling the best movies in their narrative depth and complexity. However, back in 1996, long before big-budget games became the norm, silicon Knights a gaming studio with a strong interest in academia, dared to venture into console gaming with a game called Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. It mesmerized players with its intricate dark storyline and thought-provoking narrative, arguably becoming the crown jewel of game story telling
Legacy of Kain would be subject to a host of controversy after its release, largely a lengthy lawsuit that would see Silicon Knights lose the rights to their Gothic Shakespearean magnum opus to Crystal Dynamics. But the resounding success of the first game paved the way for a beloved sequel that was equally as fascinating and captivating as its source material. But the franchise would see itself subject to more monsters throughout the years with corporate interference, drastic cuts and time restraints to future installments that even Kain nor Raziel could fix shifting through time.
