Trail Guide | Upper Coyote Canyon | Re-tracing the 1775 Anza Expedition

In 1775 Spanish explorer and military officer Juan Bautista de Anza led 300 settlors and 1,000 livestock from Mexico to Northern California, the first Over-Land expedition of that route. During that expedition, his party camped during Christmas time along Coyote Canyon, near the town of Anza, CA, and within present day Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Here, I explore the canyon, showing you what not to miss, where to camp, and tips on navigation and obstacles.

Share your coyote canyon story below! Are you old enough to remember when it connected all the way through?
