Jamaican dancehall artiste and Star Gully Bop Passes Away After Battle With Kidney Disease.

Jamaica and the dancehall music scene are in mourning as the beloved entertainer Gully Bop, born Robert Lee Malcolm, passed away on Monday (October 30, 2023) at the Kingston Public Hospital.

The news of his death was confirmed by his pastor, Chris Tate, of El’Shaddai Prophetic Ministries.

Gully Bop’s journey in the music industry was nothing short of remarkable.

He shot to fame in 2014 with his infectious hit single “Body Specialist.”

His rise to stardom was catalysed by a viral video of him passionately deejaying the track on the streets, which quickly captivated the hearts of many.

His story was the embodiment of a ‘rags to riches’ narrative, symbolising the dreams of many aspiring artistes in Jamaica.

The pinnacle of his career was marked by a headlining performance at Sting in December 2014, an event that showcased the zenith of his short-lived yet impactful musical journey.

Gully Bop’s energetic performances and unique style endeared him to fans across Jamaica and beyond.

In recent months, Gully Bop had been facing significant health challenges.

Suffering from a debilitating kidney disease, he was admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital where he had been receiving medical treatment.

His fans and well-wishers had been fervently hoping for his recovery and return to the stage.
