Previously over the last few weeks, we have looked at Castles, Forts and Palaces and looked at their similarities and also differences. However, there are a number of other fortifications that were prominent and common during the Medieval Period. These are Fortified Houses, and they came in a number of different styles. The aim of these houses was primarily as a dwelling for a family, but the need for protection was also key. The people inside these houses were not rich enough or powerful enough to afford a castle or a fort, however did infact require some form of protection.

In this video, we look at Fortified Manor Houses, looking back our trip to what I deemed to be 'England's strangest castle,' Stokesay Castle. Also we look at Tower Houses, Bastle Houses and Peel Towers/Pele Towers. So Join us today as look at Fortified Houses.
