In this video, I review Block's new Bitkey hardware wallet and app. I think that this is an excellent (albeit not inexpensive) hardware wallet that will enable beginners to take custody of their Bitcoin, while enjoying many of the benefits of collaborative custody multisig.

Bitkey is definitely a beautiful and solid piece of hardware, though I hope that in later models it will include a screen, which can be used to double-check addresses and amounts when sending Bitcoin.

As Bitcoin adoption continues, we are going to see lots of different custody and self-custody solutions, many of which won't pass the most extreme ideals of self-sovereignty that many advanced Bitcoiners share.

I think it's important not get too toxic about this. New Bitcoiners can definitely benefit from the Bitkey, and then later move on to more self-sovereign and private solutions like the Blockstream Jade and Coldcard.

Bitkey is a great and accessible solution to the very real problem of so many people leaving their Bitcoin on exchanges.
