The Nissan Sentra has been one of Nissan's best-selling 4-door cars for quite some time, and it was also the last of their passenger cars to receive the corporate redesign to integrate the look of all their cars as one. Just like the even smaller Versa lost interior passenger room and cargo room with its redesign, the same is true with the Sentra. In fact, more was lost when the SR Turbo and Nismo trims were dropped. With the axing of the the Nismo, the manual transmission was also dropped. Now, only 3 trims exist; the base S, the most popular SV with the most all-around standard equipment and the more sporty SR. Both SV and SR have their own respective premium packages which add really nice features at extra cost. Most impressive is the amount of standard safety features on this car!
We see Blind Spot Monitor, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, 10 supplemental airbags, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Rear Automatic Braking. Inside, we see a standard 8" touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto support. In addition, there is Bluetooth streaming, Bluetooth Hands-Free, SiriusXM Radio, USB ports and more! Overall, with our test car sitting just under $22,000 and equipped with everything stated above AND Intelligent Key access and remote start, the all-new Sentra is terrific value for the money, however, we do feel it is underpowered and really struggles with acceleration onto a highway. We also do not like the CVT transmission. It is lazy and drones at sustained speeds. Fuel economy is amazing, and we saw an average of 35.2 MPG on our test drive in town and on the interstate!
Overall, a worthy contender in the compact car market.
