I’m Dr. Adrian Cable, VP R&D at Lifesize, and you’re watching episode 2 of my series on “advanced collaboration." Today, I'm talking about hybrid work – the changing face of WFH.

What is “hybrid work?" WFH used to be second-best, then the pandemic hit, and now, instead of working from the office, most of us are working from home. So “hybrid work” is about developing the right processes, discipline and using the right tools, so you can work productively from anywhere as opposed to having the workdays being optimized around people being in a particular place (like the office) and anything else (like WFH) being second best. With the pandemic, working from home -- at least some of the time -- will be the new normal. Many companies are promoting most work at home indefinitely to optimize real estate footprint.

What's the difference between face-to-face (F2F) work and remote work? Most people just started WFH, brought office-based work habits developed over a lifetime home, and then realized a lot of things don’t work as well as they used to in the office. In fact, while most F2F things can be done remotely, there are significant differences between the two, which means that just trying to “go remote” cold turkey can end up being super inefficient -- often without you realizing it.
