WHAT CRUISERS WANT TO CHANGE IN 2024
Unsurprisingly, the most frequent response we heard from cruisers had to do with pricing. Most want the cruise lines to stop raising cruise fares. It is true that cruising is still a better value than similar land-based tours. However, the prices have gone up considerably this past year.

Likewise, many cruises pointed out that more cruise lines have begun charging for onboard amenities. For many, this nickel and diming has to stop. There were always some upsells on a cruise, but it feels like wherever you look, the cruise line is trying to charge you for additional activities and experiences once onboard.

Likewise, cruisers want all the cutbacks to stop. Many cruise lines have seriously cut their offerings from reduced daily service to paired-down main dining room menus. Yet, the prices have gone up while cruisers have fewer choices.

Regarding the onboard experiences, cruisers would like to see the cruise line change some of its policies—cruisers sighted drink package limitations and requirements as a sore spot. Cruisers would also like the cruise lines to include more in their baseline fare. Items like bottled water and soft drinks were cited as basic amenities that should be complimentary.

Cruise ship dress codes also topped the list. There were travelers that were both pro and con formal night. Although the consensus was that the cruise lines should enforce dress codes if they plan on having them on certain nights. The same goes for the smoking policy. Many cruisers would like to see smoking eliminated from ships. If that doesn’t happen, several want the cruise lines to enforce policies like no smoking on balconies.

Another inclusion that cruisers are sick of paying for is the internet. The Internet has become an expectation on land, and many believe that cruise lines should include the Internet in the base fare. Another technological improvement sailors would like to see in 2024 is cruise line apps.

While many cruise lines require cruisers to use apps, many community members indicated that often the apps do not work well. So, cruisers want the cruise lines to improve this technology if they are going to be forced to use it.

Lastly, those we polled want to see some of their fellow cruisers improve their behavior. Cruisers chair hogs reserving loungers, line cutters, elevator rushers, and other annoying behavior. Travelers want to see cruise line do a better job of policing these behaviors so everyone onboard can enjoy the trip.
