Today it’s known worldwide as a beloved TV classic. But originally, it wasn’t even supposed to be a real show. Proposed as a joke at NBC, the concept was meant to be a parody of a sitcom, a premise too ridiculous to ever succeed… until one executive saw the potential, and assembled a dream team to pull it off — including a daring producer who had a history of pushing the envelope.
