As Kevin's dad needed to attend to some matters in Shanghai, our initial stop on this trip led us to the vibrant city. After an eventful 48 hours in Shanghai, we'll be taking the high-speed train to Kevin's dad's hometown – the beautiful capital, Beijing!
Our 48 hours in Shanghai were so packed with experiences that we'll split our recount into two parts. For this installment, we stayed near Jing'an Temple in a hotel. Rising early to combat jet lag, the four of us eagerly anticipated the break of dawn in our hotel room. After a delightful Shanghai-style breakfast, we officially embarked on a day of exploration in the bustling streets of Shanghai! Our plan for the first day was to start from Jing'an Temple, walk along Nanjing Road, exploring and indulging until we reached the iconic Bund by the Huangpu River. Along the way, surprises kept coming – from witnessing professional square dancers to encountering skilled artisans, savoring authentic Hong Kong desserts, and experiencing the lively matchmaking corner in People's Square. However, our plan to reach the Bund was interrupted as we arrived at Nanjing Road pedestrian street. Fortunately, we regained our energy the next day and eagerly returned to the Bund. We took a ferry across the Huangpu River, ascended the towering Shanghai Center, which stands as China's tallest building, enjoying a 360-degree panoramic view of Shanghai. Later, we visited the adjacent Jin Mao Tower on the 88th floor, immersing ourselves in a chic afternoon tea atmosphere. As night fell, we joined Dad to admire the dazzling night view from the Shanghai Center and took the last ferry back to Puxi, concluding our incredibly memorable two-day itinerary in Shanghai.
