Untold Story about Hollywood Urban Legend Peter Falk -The mystery of the famous Columbus raincoat solved, often referred to as "Squinty Falk" due to the eye he lost in childhood because of cancer, and who wore a glass eye throughout his life, found his path to stardom after numerous, mostly minor film roles. He became renowned for his portrayal of Lieutenant Columbo, the astute detective in a rumpled overcoat, always mentioning his unseen wife and whose last name was Columbo but whose first name remained a mystery, drove a beat-up Peugeot but consistently outsmarted killers who favored luxury cars like Mercedes or Rolls-Royces. He became one of television's great legends, and Falk welcomed being recognized as Columbo, viewing it not as a burden but as a fantastic role,a character whose first televised case was penned by the young screenwriter Stephen Bochko, later known for creating "Hill Street Blues" and "Law in LA." The first episode was directed by a then-unknown newcomer named Steven Spielberg. Peter Falk passed away at his Beverly Hills home on June 23, 2011, after a long battle with senile dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Falk was a two-time Academy Award nominee, a Golden Globe winner, and the recipient of five Emmys, with four of them awarded for his unforgettable role as the nameless Lieutenant Columbo. Unfortunately, there would be no more of Columbo's famous "just one more thing.

In Wim Wenders' "Wings of Desire," Falk portrayed himself and relished the Columbo references his character made. He also achieved cult status for his role as a grandfather narrating the story of "The Princess Bride" in the eponymous film.

During his breaks from filming "Columbo," Falk actively sought film roles and was a member of his friend John Cassavetes' regular crew, a legendary independent filmmaker known for his iconic low-budget dramas, where everyone acted with a genuine passion.

Falk's last significant role was alongside Paul Reiser in the 2005 film "The Thing About My Folks," for which he received the Best Actor award at the Milan Film Festival. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to film the final episode of "Columbo," as dementia overtook him.

As for the famous Columbo raincoat, the rumor that it ended up in the Smithsonian museum is false; Falk kept it in his closet at home, although he stopped wearing it in front of the cameras after 2003.
