Extreme Prejudice is an 80s action classic that not a ton of people have seen. I don’t think modern audiences realize what a big star, Nick Nolte was in his prime. The older, more grizzled guy we know now isn’t who he was when he first started making movies in the 70s. He first burs onto the scene with an acclaimed mini-series (one of the first of its kind) called Rich Man, Poor Man, and had a smash hit with The Deep, which is mostly remembered now for Jacqueline Bisset’s wet t-shirt scenes. Other movies like North Dallas Forty proved he was more than just a blond-pretty boy, which is how he was considered back then, and 48 hrs brought him to another level. But, Nolte always had a taste for more cerebral fare, and when he went commercial, his movies tended to flop, as he only really caught on to the zeitgeist again during his middle-aged period in the 90s, with Cape Fear and The Prince of Tides. One such attempt to mould him into a bigger star was this movie, which re-teamed him with his 48 Hours director, Walter Hill. It’s been called Hill’s homage to his mentor Sam Peckinpah, and sure enough, it does feel like a kinda-sorta remake of THE WILD BUNCH. It's this week's Best Movie You Never Saw and a movie I hope folks check out!
