On International Women's Day, during his TED talk, the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, Shombi Sharp called to join him in challenging the gender stereotypes and bias. In his speech he presented an inspiring social experiment and even conducted one himself, to show how stereotypes affect our vision and how that can be changed at early age. While sharing his personal story with the audience, he made it clear that gender stereotypes are a social fiction that disappears when we let them. And to make gender equality real, women and girls and men and boys need to work together. Shombi Sharp has been appointed as UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Armenia and assumed his responsibilities as of 1 March 2018.
Before he joined UNDP, Shombi was a Program Coordinator at Naropa University in Colorado, USA (2001-2002). He began his career in development as a Strategic Planner, Project Manager & Crisis Response Coordinator with CARE International in Harare, Zimbabwe (1998-2000).
Shombi holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, USA. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
