We chat with Prof. Hosffman Ospino to reflect on the Instrumentum laboris for October session of the Synod on Synodality. We discuss the disconnect between the media focus on sex and gender issues in the synod and the bigger picture that the synod is actually intended to address. Our conversation gives particular attention to the synod documents' call for more formation for Catholics at large, and what that may need to look like in the future. We also consider how the synod's emphasis on listening can inform how the Church addresses the global crisis around the sexual abuse of vulnerable persons by clergy.
