Microwave salvage parts was fun and educational. The intention of my video was to learn what’s in a microwave and warn people about crushing the magnetron and transformer holding current and maybe some entertainment . Unlike other, larger appliances, even if you unplug a microwave, it can still hold a deadly charge in its capacitors. If your magnetron has a pink ring around it, then it contains beryllium oxide, which is extremely toxic if crushed. The cavity magnetron is the main component of a microwave. The magnetron is an oscillator where electrons are emitted from a hot cathode and whirl past resonant cavities which are part of the anode at speeds that generate microwave energy. The magnetron is a high-powered vacuum tube that works as a self-excited microwave oscillator. Crossed electron and magnetic fields are used in the magnetron to produce the high-power output required in radar equipment. Mishandling a magnetron has been known to cause death. This is the main danger. Never operate a microwave oven with the cover opened, as high voltage and quite high currents are circulating. You can also sell it without taking it apart , eplacing a microwave magnetron costs $100 to $200. This includes a part price of $50 to $100 and $50 to $100 for labor. A magnetron is the primary component that produces heat for the appliance. This part creates microwave energy. Now for the deadly lethal transformer warning the powers the hungry magnetron - There are three windings, the primary one getting 120 or 240V mains voltage applied. The secondary is high in power. A potentially lethal amount of current is provided by the other end of the transformer, which is grounded to the core. Unlike other, larger appliances, even if you unplug a microwave, it can still hold a deadly charge in its capacitors. Next time I’ll sound a little more correct , but maybe I’ll learn about something else.

This is a show about inventing, creating, and reviewing products.
