Liz Truss’s new book did not receive Cabinet Office clearance before publication.

Cabinet Office minister John Glen confirmed the news after a question was raised by Labour MP for Ealing Central and Acton, Rupa Huq, in the Commons.

Ms Huq said: “With two former Conservative PMs having contravened the ministerial code recently, twice in the case of Boris Johnson, and the Radcliffe rules in the case of his successor, is it now Tory party policy to routinely ignore the rules and, if not, what sanctions will these two face?”

Mr Glen replied: “The honourable lady is correct to say that the former prime minister’s – the Member for South West Norfolk – book was reviewed under the Radcliffe rules.

“The Cabinet Office did not clear it. The overwhelming majority of those books that are submitted comply and we will have to keep these matters under review.”

Ms Truss’s memoir, Ten Years To Save The West, was published this month.
