In this video we'll go over replacing the drive belt tensioner spring assembly, and the serpentine belt for the GM Ecotec 1.4L Turbocharged engine. This engine is found in the Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Sonic, Chevrolet Trax and the Buick Encore. The drive belt tensioner has had the internal retaining strip break off due to corrosion resulting in over expansion of the spring. This puts excessive wear on the drive belt. We will replace all of these worn parts with the latest genuine GM versions of the parts as well as new GM torque to yield (TTY) fasteners. This is a relatively simple repair you can DIY with the only unusual tool needed being a torque angle gauge.

The vehicle shown is a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze ECO, but the procedure is applicable to any Chevrolet or Buick from 2012 thru 2020 with the Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged engine RPO LUJ/LUV or similar with oil dipstick in the front, including the following models:

Chevrolet Sonic, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Trax, and Buick Encore

Chevrolet Sonic drive belt tensioner replacement and RH motor mount removal
Chevrolet Cruze drive belt tensioner replacement and RH motor mount removal
Chevrolet Trax drive belt tensioner replacement and RH motor mount removal
Buick Encore drive belt tensioner replacement and RH motor mount removal
