Tesla just announced a shocking update regarding the Tesla Model Y. Just last month we got our official launch of the refresh Tesla Model 3 Highland, and it raised the question "when will we start to see the refresh Tesla Model Y Juniper?"

Well, we may have a better idea on timing for the refresh Model Y, and it's not good news. While we were all under the impression that we would be seeing project Juniper, the refresh Model Y, in the second half of 2024, it turns out that Tesla will not be releasing a refresh Model Y at all in 2024.

Tesla just these last couple days started sending out an updated dialog for Tesla employees regarding questions from customers on the refresh Model Y. This update says that Tesla is not planning to release a refresh to the 4 year old Model Y in the 2024 year and that current incentives and tax credits should be referenced in offering existing models to customers.

The refresh Model Y is anticipated to include the same basic updates that the refresh Model 3 just received. This will include things like cooled seats, rear screen, minor exterior face lift, no stalks, turn signals on the steering wheel, quieter cabin, upgraded sound system, ambient lighting and a plethora of other updates.

Although many people were expecting to see a refresh Model Y this year, myself included, it seems that it will be quite some time before this actually happens. That means looking at existing prices and incentives there are some good deals available right now on new orders and existing inventory.

When looking at these offers, a new Model Y RWD can be had just under $35k, and the Model Y LR AWD can be had just under $40k. These are amazing prices and represents the best price on the Long Range Model Y we have ever seen. In addition, coupling in existing inventory discounts, my local inventory shows an option to get into a RWD Model Y for just under $33k and a LR Model Y for about $37k.

Given the average sales price of a car in the United States today, these prices both represent significantly lower prices than the average new car. Add in the gas savings and the savings on maintenance, the Model Y is quite possibly the best car value today.
