Mike Gurr reviews the VW Getta GLI
The Jetta GLI is a cousin of the famed Golf GTI. They have a similar approach to building a sportier version, however the Jetta GLI is built of an entirely different platform. The GLI has a more aggressive look compared to the base model with interior updates and most importantly a more powerful 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder with 210hp. The upcoming GTI will get a 220hp engine for 2018, it remains to be seen if this too will be added to the Jetta GLI before an all-new model comes out soon. The Jetta GLI is a large compact sedan, in fact the largest in this class, almost bordering on mid-size territory. This provides a huge trunk and plenty of legroom. The other engines offerd in the regular Jetta line are the vary capable and uprising fun to drive 1.4l Turbo with 250 or the 1.8L with 170hp.One of the shortfalls is th price. This car can get expensive, making the Golf R a real contender for a buyers money.
Competitors to the GLI would be the Civic hatchback, Si or turbo sedan. the Nissan Sentra Nismo, Elantra Sport, Elantra GT, Kia Forte, Subaru WRX, Ford Focus ST, Ford Focus RS, Mazda3 GT, the VW Golf GTI and Golf R.
