Sleek Styling Meets Capable Performance in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE

Mercedes has refreshed its popular midsize GLE SUV for 2024, with updated styling, new tech features, and additional performance capabilities across the model range. The 2024 GLE continues to pair refined on-road manners with genuine off-road talent.

On the outside, the new GLE features revised front and rear fascias with new LED lighting elements. The front end is more chiseled and aggressive thanks to larger air intakes and a more sculpted hood, while flattened rear haunches give it a lower, wider stance. New wheel designs ranging from 19 to 22 inches complement the athletic proportions.

The interior is quintessential Mercedes luxury, with soft-touch materials, ambient lighting, and the latest version of the MBUX infotainment system. Newly available rear-seat entertainment screens with streaming capability will keep passengers happy, while a panoramic sunroof floods the cabin with light. The GLE is also packed with standard active safety tech, including automated emergency braking and blind spot monitoring.

Motivation comes from a choice of turbocharged gas engines or a diesel powertrain. The GLE 450 4Matic model boasts a 362-horsepower inline six-cylinder with a 48-volt hybrid system, while the GLE 580 4Matic ramps things up with a 483-horsepower V8. Later this year, Mercedes will also introduce the high-performance Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S, complete with a hand-built biturbo V8 producing 603 horsepower. Even base models deliver impressive acceleration, and all-wheel-drive is standard across the lineup.

Of course, an SUV wearing the three-pointed star needs to handle challenging terrain with composure. The GLE offers Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive paired with an off-road package that includes a two-speed transfer case, locking differentials, and adjustable air suspension. Those capabilities, plus almost ten inches of ground clearance and impressive approach/departure angles allow the GLE to scamper up and down trails that would leave most competitors flailing.

Pricing starts at $58,750 for the base GLE 350, ranging up to the six-figure AMG model. Given its unique combination of on-road refinement, off-road talent, cutting-edge tech, and Mercedes cache, those prices seem more than fair. The refreshed 2024 Mercedes GLE looks to continue winning over luxury SUV shoppers who want German engineering and performance with a hint of dirt under its fingernails.
